Posted 7 months ago by Lisa Brezinski
Advocating for our nursing profession is so important, especially when it impacts staffing, burnout, and patient care. If this is something you are passionate about changing, let your voice be heard and advocate for the Nurse Licensure Compact Act. Don't let Illinois be left behind!

Hello Nursing Associations and Agencies,
I hope this message finds you well. As you may be aware, projections from the Illinois Department of Employment Security indicate that our state is facing a significant nursing shortage, with an estimated need for an additional 18,000 registered nurses (RNs) by 2030. This shortage is largely driven by an aging population, an increasing number of healthcare facilities, and the retirement of current nursing professionals. Addressing this gap is crucial to ensuring that adequate healthcare services are available for all Illinois residents.
One potential solution to this pressing issue is the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). The NLC allows nurses in participating states to hold a multistate license, enabling them to practice and provide care both in-person and through telehealth services without the need for multiple licenses. This is particularly important as telehealth has seen a significant increase, and many healthcare companies are prioritizing hiring in NLC states, potentially leaving Illinois at a disadvantage.
We invite your organization to participate in a virtual meeting to discuss the proposal for Illinois to join the Nurse Licensure Compact. This meeting will be an opportunity for your organization’s voice to be heard.
Please respond with the name, title, and email address of your designated representative who will attend the meeting on January 14, 2025 at 12pm. Your participation is vital to ensure that the perspectives of nursing organizations across Illinois are represented in this discussion."
